What to do if your German Shepherd is missing?
Your dog suddenly is missing, someone left the gate open and your dog has gone exploring.
Does he have his Council registration tag on. No.... why not. It is a legal requirement that all dogs over the age of 3 months are registered. The number on the tag can be used by dog control to trace the animal back to you and your dog can then be reunited with his family.
Does he have a name tag with your telephone number on it. A lost dog must get some sense of security if he is at least called by his name by someone who finds him.
Microchipping is becoming more popular and providing the facility who finds the dog be it the SPCA, Animal Control or Vet, has a scanning unit, once again your dog can be reunited with you.
If none of the above apply to you, there are places to check to see if your dog has been found.
Animal Control operate several Animal Shelters. Keep in mind that dogs held at these facilities are only held for 7 days. Following that time, if they are deemed not to be adoptable or no rescue organisation steps in these dogs WILL be euthanised. Do not restrict yourself to checking only the pounds in your area. Ring daily for best results.
The SPCA is another avenue to explore. Once again you will need to ring daily.
It pays to print off photos of your dog to take to the pound, Long Coat Shepherds have often been thought of as "Collie Crosses". What you may call a Shepherd Cross - could be thought of as a Lab Cross by the pound.
If you have internet access, Pets on the Net, is proving to be an excellent method of advertising your dog is missing.
Remember though, if your dog wears identification at all times reuniting you with your dog will be so much easier.
